Brigadeiro is the Brazillian version of a chocolate truffle. Their taste and texture is a cross between a traditional truffle and fudge. They have a rich chocolatey taste and a fudgy consistency..the kind that gets stuck in your teeth! Yum! My first introduction to Brigadeiros were through a Brazillian friend of mine who made them one evening when I was over at her place. Ordinarily, Brigadeiros are rolled into little round truffles and can be coated with sprinkles or nuts. When my friend made them, we didn’t even bother with all that fuss, we just ate the whole thing right out of the pan with a spoon! It was sensational and decadent! I made them recently for a holiday party, and they were a hit! To be more party-friendly, I did roll them out into truffles and they look really delectable (and professional like!) when placed in mini cupcake liners. I rolled half in chocolate sprinkles and left half as they were. Both were yummy!
Try these delicious treats for your next holiday party! Or a random Wednesday! They are easy to make and require only a few ingredients! And go ahead, eat it straight out of the pan, I won’t tell anyone!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Optional: Chocolate sprinkles or ground nuts such as walnuts, pistachios or almonds.
Mini cupcake or candy cups
In a medium sized pan over medium heat, combine the first three ingredients together and stir. Keep stirring till the mixtures cooks into a shiny chocolate ball that slides as a mass when the pan is tilted. When the batter is done, transfer to a buttered dish and allow it to cool to room temperature. You can cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate it to cool further and work on making the truffles later.
When ready to roll the truffles, butter your hands and lift spoonfuls of bridgadeiro and roll them into a ball. Roll them around in the sprinkles or nuts if using and then place them in the paper cup.
Enjoy these delicious treats!
